She is a Professor of Education, Serving at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Kenya. She holds a PhD in Educational Communication and Technology (EdTech specialisation), an MPhil in Educational Administration, Planning, and Curriculum Development (with a focus on Curriculum Development), both from Moi University, and a Bachelor of Education from Kenyatta University. She has also earned special certification in higher education leadership and management from the University of Kassel, Germany, and comprehensive training in the Management of Internationalization in higher education from Leibniz University of Hannover, Germany. Prof. Abenga’s experience spans over 37 years in higher education, including teaching, research, and administration. Most recently, she served as the Director of the Pan African University Institute of Governance, Humanities and Social Sciences (PAUGHSS) in Yaoundé, Cameroon, since 2020. Previously having served at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, in various administrative positions such as coordinator in the school of open learning and continuing education, founding director of international relations and academic linkages, and opportunities to serve as acting DVC Academic and Students Affairs. Prior to this, she was a lecturer in teacher education and TVET institutions.
Prof. Abenga’s research interests focus on the application of technology in Education (instructional design, development, and implementation). Her passion for EdTech, organisational learning and internationalisation has significantly influenced her practice and publication profile. Prof. Abenga has a prolific portfolio of expertise in training and capacity building across her three spheres of interest, which has led her to serve as a regional expert in selected DAAD-DIES programmes. She is an active member of professional associations such as the African Network for Internationalisation of Education (ANIE), Society of Educational Research and Evaluation in Kenya (SEREK), Educational Management Society of Kenya (EMSKENYA), South Africa Comparative and History of Education Society (SACHES), African Women in Science and Engineering (AWSE) and DIES-DAAD network.
Prof. Abenga has a rich repertoire of authored and co-authored peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and training modules. She is an active teacher educator, educational management and leadership practitioner, and researcher whose teaching philosophy is to maximise the potential of educational technologies for effective and efficient teaching and learning in all environments, ensuring that no one is left behind.
